The Shade of Glade – 2013 | Installation, Video and Sound | Fort Delta Gallery | 4:20 mins looped
The willow branches were stacked and hanged inverted from the ceiling creating a dense environment that actively reshaped the space and engaged the viewer. The obstructed space became a single whole creating an amorphous environment where the material took over, representing a physical and psychological landscape. The texture of the material became the structure of thoughts and emotion, binding and reconciling past experiences and inventing future ones.
The installation can be compared to a performance, as the process was visible and connected to action. I envisioned the characteristics of the willow and the moving image to take over the space, and hold an active and passive role over the entire site.
